Lime has the molecular formula Ca(OH)₂ and a relative molecular weight of 74.09. It is widely used as an environmental neutralizer, in treating acidic wastewater, wastewater treatment, flue gas desulfurization for boilers, construction applications, waste incineration, and other fields. It effectively removes sulfate ions, as well as fluoride ions from anionic solutions. Moreover, its coagulation and decolorization effects outperform those achieved with sodium hydroxide solutions—and importantly, it offers significantly lower usage costs compared to sodium hydroxide.
